In order for a team to have any chance of succeeding, a lot of ingredients are necessary. We must be dedicated to our own success. Treating all members of our own team, school and especially our competitors with respect is going to be the key. Remember this includes our parents, teachers, friends, coaches and competitors.
VARSITY LETTERS: The top 7 runners from each team will receive varsity letters.
ATTENDANCE: Attendance is required at all practices and meets. Any excuse from a practice or meet must be given to me personally.
EAGLE AWARD: In 1993, we added a new award to cross country. Cross country requires discipline and exhausting effort from everyone while top awards can only go to a few. This award is presented to one boy and one girl who exemplify the attitude, enthusiasm, and leadership recognizable above and beyond expectations.
Here are some guidelines for efficient practices and successful travel to our meets:
1. Be on time. Practice & meets run smoothly when everyone is mentally and physically prepared. Being late for the bus can lead to a suspension and possibly expulsion from the team.
2. If you arrive late and you are with your parents, they can drive you to the meet. If you are driving yourself, I would prefer you stayed home. It is too much of a responsibility to be on the road, in a hurry, by yourself.
3. Always encourage each other. Proper practice and meet attire is expected. Practice attire: training shoes, socks, shorts and top. Meet attire: Training/racing shoes, socks, uniform, and sweats
4. Be prepared. Pack all the items you will need for your race ahead of time. Your uniform, sweats, shoes, extra socks and possibly some food or money needs to be packed and ready to go by the time we need to leave.
5. No headsets, footballs, Frisbees, etc. We’re there to run. Let’s take care of our duties and enjoy our teammates company.
6. After your race, meet with the coach at camp immediately. After we get our chance to talk, you can meet with friends and family.
7. Your parents can sign you out on the prepared sheet. You can only leave with YOUR parents unless previous arrangements have been made.
8. No other sports during the season, including road racing.
